Creativity Comes Alive in the Design Lab

student showing design work

Every week, students step into Alex Green’s Design Lab as part of their related arts rotation and each visit sparks new ideas, new skills, and plenty of innovation. The Design Lab has quickly become a favorite stop for students who love to explore, build, and imagine what’s possible.

Inside the lab, students dive into the design thinking process, learning how to brainstorm, prototype, test, and refine their ideas just like real designers and engineers. Their projects stretch across a wide range of creative challenges: designing custom T‑shirts, sketching and building shoes of the future, producing stop‑motion videos, and even imagining an entire school of the future.

Technology plays a big role too. Students learn the foundations of coding and robotics, bringing stories to life through block coding in Scratch Jr. and programming robots to act out scenes they’ve created. Watching their ideas move, speak, and interact gives students a powerful sense of accomplishment and a deeper understanding of how technology works in the real world.

Alex Green’s hands‑on approach encourages students to take risks, think critically, and collaborate with one another. The room buzzes with energy as students test out new concepts, troubleshoot challenges, and celebrate their breakthroughs.

Week after week, the Design Lab proves to be a place where imagination thrives and learning feels like an adventure. With every project, students discover new ways to express themselves and solve problems creatively — skills that will serve them well far beyond the classroom.
